We always recommend that you get your outdoor footwear fitted by one of our professional boot fitting team, however we have devised a handy guide to help you get the best fit you can for our shoes and boots bought online. All brands of outdoor footwear fit slightly differently as they use individually made 'Lasts' dependent upon the region, country of origin of the company, foot shapes and activities that the boot is designed for.

As well as length, there are varying width fittings and 'last' shapes: Scarpa fit medium width feet, Merrell vary, with some models suiting wider feet; the Chameleon for example. Hanwag fit medium to wide, Asolo are a slightly narrower fit than the others and some models have slightly lower volume fit. Salomon vary slightly between models but are generally a medium-width fit. If measuring width at home, you need to calculate between the length and the widest part of your foot.

Why not take a trip to the beautiful Wye Valley and come and see us? Our dedicated team of boot fitters will assess your foot, find a boot to suit the activity, shape and size of your foot. We can even modify your boots if needed to help with precise heel fitting to avoid blisters, aid comfort if you have bunions, or show you some fancy lacing tricks to improve fit or aid comfort on down hill stretches! We also offer a range of superfeet foot-beds to increase foot stability and realign your lower joints. Otherwise...

How to choose a shoe size ?

  • Use a wall with a 90° angle.
  • Find a sheet of paper, ruler and pen.

What should you do next?

  • Make sure that you are wearing the same socks that you would normally wear with the type of boot you will be using.
  • Next stand on the sheet of paper and firmly place the back of your foot against the wall.
  • Use your pen to draw a line just in front of your longest toe.
  • Measure the distance with your ruler between the wall and mark that you made.
  • Find this measurement in the size chart below.
